Aim and Scope

The Australasian Policing Research Database is intended to provide a comprehensive list of contemporary research into policing and police-related issues. The aim of the database is to direct police, academics, policy makers, and other interested parties to relevant research and the principal researchers in the field.

Research that makes a contribution to any area of policing will be considered, for example:

  • Police human resource management (e.g., organisational change; industrial relations; performance measures)
  • Crime prevention (e.g., initiatives, evaluations)
  • Drugs and alcohol (e.g., evaluations of anti-drug trafficking initiatives, evaluation of drug and alcohol training and education)
  • Electronic crime (e.g., investigations, challenges)
  • Juvenile justice (e.g., youth diversion)
  • Operational policing (e.g., one and two person patrols) and
  • Victims of crime (e.g., victim assistance, police response to family violence).

Submissions to the database must clearly outline the aim and scope of the project. To be considered “research”, the project must aim to create new knowledge (e.g., answer clearly defined questions or hypotheses, or further explore a particular problem or phenomenon), or review existing knowledge in a particular area.

CAVEAT: This database does not contain, and will not publish, information relating to sensitive or classified research being undertaken within police or other agencies.
