Cooperation and CoordinationGiven the ACPR's mandate, we are actively involved with other agencies in a variety of areas as explained below. We have also included access to presentations given by ACPR staff to other agencies and forums and these can be downloaded in pdf format. In addition to the various coordination activities presented elsewhere in our website, the ACPR also actively supports the following issues:
Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Report on Government Services, and the National Survey of Community Satisfaction with PolicingThe ACPR is a member of the Working Group for the Police chapter of the annual Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Review of Government Services. This report, published annually by the Productivity Commission, provides nationally comparable data across a range of government services. The ACPR also chairs the Police Practitioners' Group (PPG), comprising representatives of the police agencies only. Since 1996, and following considerable PPG input, a National Survey of Community Satisfaction with Policing has been used as a key measure of levels of community satisfaction with policing services. Until November 2000, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conducted the survey, with all Australian police jurisdictions meeting the annual cost. In late 2000, the ACPR was tasked with continuing the annual survey through implementing and managing a contract with a private industry service provider. Following appropriate tender and evaluation processes, a three-year contract was let to ACNielsen Pty Ltd, commencing on 1 July 2001. National Common Police ServicesAs one of the "National Common Police Services", the ACPR is in constant liaison with its sibling agencies in relation to matters of mutual interest. This liaison extends to formal linkages in some instances, including membership of the Board of Management of the National Crime Statistics Unit, and membership of working parties on various issues. The other National Common Police Services are the:
Australasia and South West Pacific Region Police Commissioners' ConferenceWith Board of Control support, the Director attends the annual Police Commissioners' Conference. This top level policing forum provides an invaluable opportunity to keep abreast of developments and initiatives within Australasia and to contribute to the future directions of Australasian policing. Consistent with APMC policy, the Board of Control considers any proposed taskings from the Commissioners' Conference and, in the context of overall taskings, priorities and available resources, determines the appropriate ACPR response. Australasian Crime Commissioners' Forum (ACCF)The ACPR is a full member of the ACCF and attends meetings of the Forum. This provides further opportunity for the ACPR to monitor emerging criminal justice issues and current police responses with a view to identifying models of best practice as well as potential research topics. The ACCF is made up of the Assistant Commissioners of Crime or their equivalent in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Directors of the ACPR and the ABCI. It reports to the Police Commissioners' Conference. |
